Home Office Renovation Tips
When we look back to 2020 there will be many things that changed forever. No one ever imagined that we would spend three months in isolation in order to stay safe and healthy. We didn’t have a plan of what it looked like to adjust our lives on just a huge scale. One of the those adjustments that seems to not be going away is the working from home. A study done by S&P Global Market Intelligence found “that 67% of enterprises will keep work from home policies in place.” Which means time to upgrade our home office space. When you begin creating or renovation for an at home office space, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.
Identify Your Needs
Everyone’s home office has different needs based on what you do. You might just need a lap top, printer and coffee. While others will need multiple screens, high speed internet and video cameras. You will also have to think about how often you will be working in your home office. Will it be daily or a few days of the week. One of the major considerations will be- will your home office be a shared space with the rest of the family or a private space just for your work? Once you begin to identify your needs, you can begin to think about finding space in your home.
Pick Your Space
If you lean towards working daily from home, you might want to consider a dedicated, private office space to foster the best at home productivity. Choose a space that preferably has a door in order limit distractions. You also want to make sure you have room to meet your needs and get the work done. If this isn’t an option in your current floor plan you may want to look in making that an old shed into an office or setting up a prefab studio in the back yard.
Note: If you wish to do deduct your office space from your IRS, will want to make sure you meet the IRS requirements for the space to be write off on your income taxes.
Embrace Technology
The only way that we have been able to see this shift to the home office is through the advancement of technology. When you are setting up your new home office make sure you embrace technology. This means upgrading your computer, purchasing a new copier, and maybe even investing in some lighting for those zoom meetings. One the best upgrades you can make for you home office when it comes to technology is the ability to plug into the internet instead of depending on wireless. It might be as simple as having your router installed in your office so you can plug right in or running an ethernet cable from wherever your router is located. Wireless is great, until it doesn’t work. Many of our homes have multiple devices that are all sharing wireless. Make sure that your home office will be able keep on going when your wireless is hit or miss.
Make it your Own
Finally, make your home office fit your style. Since the only person working in your home office is you, make it whatever you want it to be. If you like music, hang up some concert posters, set up a speaker and rock it out. If you like calm and peaceful atmosphere, buy some plants and light some candles. Your home office should fit your style and the environment you do your best work in. Set a decorating budget and start shopping to add the little things that will make be a big difference when it comes to your new home office.
